You will never regret saying no to a client

When a client is keen to work with us, that's a win right? Our hard work, our social proof, our marketing is all coming together and someone trusts us enough to want to pay us for our work. Well yes but no, that situation is usually the jam on the bread, the days we look forward to, we should feel like saying yes easily, right?

Here is the thing, we are so programmed to work towards that situation that if it is even crossing our minds that we might say no, that we could say no, that something doesn't feel quite right about the gig then it's a FIRM NO. Our intuition is always right and in that situation if you are knocking back a firm offer be sure that something is not right and they just aren't a match for you.

My advice is not to agonise over it, if you are unsure smile, re-direct them to someone who is a bette match and ding the bell 'NEXT!' forcing a relationship when your inner voice has waved a red flag is a sure fire way to an unhappy situation for you. Why does this matter? Because all the things that a job should give you as well as money, like confidence, an expanded portfolio, new contacts, references, all those things are lost. You may get the money in the bank but it's still not worth the opportunity cost.
